The Mistake Most internet marketers make

mscsrrrOct 3, 2007 9:21am
The mistake that most website owners and businesses are currently making is that they are depending on their traffics to come from search engines alone.

Some are even squandering hundreds of thousands of dollars monthly doing PPC campaign.

This is fatal.

It is impossible for all websites to rank at #1 or among the top 10 all at once.

So, once businesses realize this obvious fact, it should be common sense for them to know that the solution should be to diversify their marketing and promotion.

Stop depending on the uncertain search engine traffic otherwise you'll go bankrupt soon.

You need to do different kinds of marketing and promotions both online and offline.

Some of them are newspaper and magazine advertising, TV, cable and radio advertising, direct mailing promotion, text-link campaign, link exchange campaign, events sponsorship promotion, press release, article promotions.

I agree, specially now that PPC ads are probably enjoying their last days. =)

Hi, your 100% correct.People often just think of the money and not the many parts of marketing & service. Search was a place were you could once make fast money on cheap clicks. But no more. I tell my clients to keep it simple and just focus on service & product(s)useability and tell everyone about them and to focus on the service they provide to that target audiance. I live in New York and go out to eat often and the places that spent a million dollars are all empty. Yet the place's with the least visual appeal are packed to the gills. Why? The food is great, the owner walks around and talks to everyone and makes you fell like your family and when you leave your full, smiling, spent reasonable money for great food and you will be back. Websites are the same way they take time but if you have what they want they will find you!..

Totally agree. Search engine traffic is not a solution.
But we have other tools to increase traffic, such as web 2.0 social bookmarking.

Many of the programs I have seen or that I promote completely mislead new members in regards to marketing the opportunity. Let me help you avoid wasting time on the following:

(1) PPC - through google or yahoo, trust me do not waste your money until you find great niche markets to promote your program to. You will be competing for top words with the top guys & gals in other opportunities & you will receive click throughs from mostly other competing advertisers. Very expensive proposition unless you find awesome niche market keywords to promote your program!

(2) Most Solo Ads - can be another waste of money. You will get a few leads from them, but mostly you are promoting to lists that are made up of other online entrepreneurs that want nothing to do with your opportunity. These solo ads may seem cheap as compared to PPC, but they are not worth a $1 each in my opinion. Be very selective in who you work with as I have had success with only a handful!!

(3) Forum Posting - trust me, do not waste your efforts. Just go read any of these forums and see who is posting. Thousands of spammers, that's who! Again, spend your effort on finding a niche market forum that is not full of spam posts!

(4) Social Networking Sites - be a real person & develop online relationships. Mention your program somewhere down the line & somewhere on your page, but don't throw it down people's throats! I think most newbies should spend more time on myspace, yuwie, and the other social networking sites. You can find other like-minded people & learn to earn from others that have! No brainer.

Anyway, that is a quick post to anyone trying to promote. Avoid wasting money & time on what everyone else is doing - find a niche & think outside of the box to succeed! BE PERSISTENT!!

I have to agree with all of the comments above and that is a rare thing. lol

I also have to add that Internet Marketing is not easy and it is not just fast cash waiting to drop into your bank account. For some reason people have this notion that if they start a website they will get rich and that is all there is to it.
These "opportunities" have great copywriters and they will tell you no telling, no selling, and no explaining. That is so much BS that I don't know where to start except with your own common sense. If you are not marketing something to someone you will not make anything. Period.

That said you can do it, and get quite rich as well. You must work at it though. You must promote your opportunity and product, and you must do it ethically. I agree that the social sites are best and I have found several that cater to marketers. I also have learned through testing and trial how to rapidly get to the front page of Google, and Yahoo with my listings in a few short days. This is where the free traffic comes from and everyone can do this. I am so looking forward to this next year.

Also one other note. Internet Marketing is not you alone against the world. The sooner you get a mentor, find friends and people that will help you the sooner you succeed. When I learned that simple little thing my marketing went from zero to Sixty in a flash. I have a partner that I work with on most every endeavor. We are Kick Ass awesome together while separately we do so-so. I spent probably $20,000 learning the ropes in this business. I don't regret it but if I knew now what I knew then .....(sigh).
The number one thing you must have above all I think is dedication. You must start over, and over and over. Test, try and adjust.

Just my 2 cents

I agree fully with mscsrrr! Web2.0 is becoming bigger all the time and if you know how to use web2.0 techniques you are on the top of the game.If you fully depend on the search engines and they change their algorithms or something else, your traffic may be gone.My tip is: learn about social networking and web2.0! I have a free ebook on my blog which shows everything about it! Visit: tlmarketing.net [tlmarketing.net]

We are funepets.com a small start up company, and are facing the exact same issues. Viral marketing, article submission, active participation in online blogs/forums are key marketing tools that we have been using.
